In Loving Memory …

Melvin E. Hotson

Melvin Earl Hotson, Sr., 82, of Sedalia, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.

He was born June 7, 1938 in Kansas City, MO, a son of Leonard and Mary (Spires) Hotson.  On December 5, 1960 in Kansas City, MO, he married Wilma Kaylene Lakey who preceded him in death on June 26, 2020.

Melvin was a member of the Church of God in Eldon, MO.  He worked for 30 years as a Waste Treatment Operator for the City of Sedalia.  Melvin enjoyed painting pictures and bow hunting.

Survivors include one son, Melvin E. Hotson, II of Overland Park, KS; one daughter, Statia K. Hotson, of Sedalia.

In addition to both of his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Johnny Hotson; and one sister, Mary Alice Collins.

Friends may pay their respects and sign the guest book on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Heckart Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sedalia VFW Post 2591.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Donor’s Choice and may be left in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.

  1. I had the privilege of taking care of Melvin during his stay in the hospital. I’ve only been a nurse for close to a year and he definitely taught me a lot about compassion and patience. He will forever hold a close spot in my heart. I’ll never forget trying to trim his beard for him as he coached me through it! He was such an ornery booger!

    I’m glad he is now with his wife, which is what he told me he wanted all along. My condolences to the family.

  2. gonna miss seeing Melvin at Fairview i was one of the housekeepers that cleaned his room , i loved seeing him working on his dollhouse ,and hearing him talk about his lovely wife Wilma ,they were both so loving towards each other ,i will miss them both ,they sure could pull at your heartstrings ,
