In Loving Memory…

Janice K. Simpson

Janice Kay Simpson died on December 6, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born October 17, 1942, in Emporia, Kansas the daughter of Martin and Ruth (Meairs) Williamson.  On November 27, 1960, she was married to Robert Simpson who preceded her in death in 2017.

She attended and graduated from the Waverly, Kansas Public School System.  Janice attended Coffeyville Community College where she met her husband.  She followed her husband to various military bases while he was a member of the United States Air Force.  After her husband’s retirement from the United States Air Force she attended State Fair Community College where she received a professional certificate in Word Processing.  She worked at various jobs throughout the years retiring from the James H Drew Corp. after 14 years of service.  She was a member of the League of Woman Voters, The Friends of the Boonslick Library, and the Show-Me Master Gardeners.   She enjoyed working in her flower beds, making up new recipes and reading.

For those of you who knew her, know she loved to read.  Have you ever seen her without a book?  One in the car, probably several on the nightstand, and a pile next to her favorite chair (she called these her desperation reading).  She had several favorite authors of whom she passed along to friends, other book lovers, and even people she didn’t know.  At her death she had a list of all the books she had read from the Boonslick Library since 1999 and it numbered over 4,463.  YES, she really did love to read.

She is survived by two sons, Mitchell Simpson of Jefferson City, John Simpson (Brenda) of Sedalia; one daughter, Jeri Breads of La Monte; one sister, Betty Williamson of Austin Texas; seven grandchildren, Jessica Simpson, Brook Simpson, Lance Schick (Kim), Joshua Hammond (LaShawnda), Haylee Simpson, John Simpson II, Lindsey Breads; four great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Michell Andrews (Chris), Marsha Fatino and one great-nephew, Aaron Andrews.
