Edward W. Schroeder

Edward William Schroeder, 84, of Green Ridge, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at his sons’ home in Hughesville.

He was born January 3, 1934, in Hughesville, son of William Henry and Mattie Jewel (Powell) Schroeder.

He was married to Patty Jean (Byler), who preceded him in death on November 9, 2011.

Ed attended Smelser Grade School and graduated from Hughesville High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany.

He was active in the family cattle and hog operation and continued farming throughout his life. He was named the Pettis County Outstanding Young Farmer in the 1960s. He also worked for WLX Trucklines for over thirty years. In later years, he enjoyed playing the stock market and became a successful investor. Outside of work, he enjoyed gardening.

Ed was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Kerry Schroeder and Stephen Schroeder, both of Hughesville; a daughter, Amy Zacha (Keith), of Sedalia; a stepson, Scott Bridges, of Green Ridge; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta Allred, of Texas, and Ann Reavis, of La Monte; and a brother, Don Schroeder, of Hughesville.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Schroeder.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Pastor Wesley Wingfield officiating.

Casket bearers will be Kerry Schroeder, Stephen Schroeder, Scott Bridges, Curt Kempf and David Kowalski.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, at Heckart Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Bethel United Methodist Church.
