In Loving Memory…

John W. Arnest

John William Arnest, son of Charles S and Mary Eisenhart Arnest, died suddenly at home in Warsaw on 3 December 2017.

He was born at Bothwell Hospital on 6 February 1947 and raised in Sedalia. John attended Broadway Elementary and graduated from Smith-Cotton High School (SC) in 1965. At SC he was elected Junior and then Senior High School Student Council President. He also played trombone in the band and was a tackle on the football team.

In 1967, John joined the US Navy and was trained as a Communications Technician (CT). Awarded a Navy scholarship, he received a BS degree in computer engineering from Purdue University and was commissioned as a line officer, later transferring to the supply corps. After serving over a 22 year period, including deployments to the Vietnam theater, John retired as a Lieutenant Commander.

He then worked for a contractor supplying equipment and parts to the Kuwaiti Air Force. When Saddam invaded Kuwait, John evacuated to Saudi Arabia until Kuwait was liberated. In November of 1993 John married Jeanne Madden who joined him in Kuwait.

Later they returned to Warsaw MO to own and operate the very successful Chuck Wagon BBQ restaurant. John enjoyed barbecuing, camping, and traveling. He was a man of faith, a patriot, and one who never was afraid to take the fork in the road. He fought the good fight and now rests in victory.

In addition to his wife Jeanne, survivors include a son Chad Arnest of Watkinsville, GA; stepson Brad Wasson of La Monte; 2 grandchildren, Jacob and Lauren; 2 brothers, Charles Arnest of Salem OR and Jim Arnest of San Francisco, CA.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a younger brother, David Arnest.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 8 at Heckart Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Fisher House or the Sedalia Animal Shelter.
