Edna Louise Burlingame

Edna Louise Burlingame, 95, of Sedalia, died Saturday, February 10, 2018, at EW Thompson Health and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 24, 1923, in Sedalia, the daughter of Augustus Alfred “Gus” Romig and Emma Mabel (Oliver) Romig.

Louise attended Oak Grove and Mark Twain grade schools and graduated from Smith-Cotton High School.

On June 22, 1940, in Sedalia, she was married to Leonard Thomas Burlingame, who preceded her in death on March 6, 1994.

Louise’s family was her life. She was very dedicated and always there for family and friends. She was a tender, loving and accepting mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, embroidery and quilting. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Loyal Sunday School Class. She was also a member of American Legion Post 16 Auxiliary.

Surviving are seven children: Sandra Louise Atherton, of Sugar Creek, Judith Ann Esser (Danny), of Sedalia, Beverly Kay Fisher (Elwood), of Sedalia, Deborah Sue Fisher (James), of Sedalia, James Leonard Burlingame, of Sedalia, Thomas Richard Burlingame (Susan), of Sedalia, and Herbert LeRoy Burlingame (Donna), of Oak Ridge, TN; 23 grandchildren; and a multitude of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was proud to have six generations living.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter at birth; a son-in-law, Harry Atherton; a grandson in infancy, Larry Atherton; two sisters, Edith Blanche Tune and Dorothy Mae Farris; and four brothers, Carl Clinton Romig, Earl William Romig, Lloyd Walter Romig and Alfred Oliver Romig.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Calvin Pritchard officiating.

Casket bearers will be grandsons: Tommy Burlingame, Scott Atherton, Russell Fisher, Dennis Fisher, Kenny Burlingame and Mikel Burlingame.

Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Epworth United Methodist Church.
